GRWDB resources assist English Language Learners
Joanne Hala, a Greater Raritan WDB board member and a teacher for one of the local area’s service providers of Title II literacy services, shared the following story:
Title II ESL students have been working on an Employment module in Burlington English, an online platform for Adult English Language Learners. As part of this module’s work, they tapped into resources on the GRWDB website — resume builder, cover letter templates, and the events calendar to learn how to spot a job fair/recruitment. I also shared the flyer for the June 4th job fair and showed them their options for registering using the QR code or the link.
This is the most advanced group in the Hunterdon County ESC Title II program but are still learning job search vocabulary and how to find resources.
One person in the class just found out her employer is closing the business. She is planning on attending the June 4 event after a session or two with me to polish her resume. Another will be re-entering the workforce and is hoping to sign up for a couple of workshops. She used the resume builder and just sent me a first draft.
While not all materials in the program are work related, it’s great to be able to connect students to the resources GRWDB staff members have worked hard to put in place and make easily accessible.
