Career-related services offered by the partners of the Greater Raritan Workforce Development Board focus on meeting customers from Hunterdon and Somerset Counties where they are.
- The Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Center Employment Services office and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS) office at 75 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Somerville are open for walk-in services 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, excluding state holidays. - The Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Center at Bartles Corner Road in Flemington closed on June 22 and will open at a new nearby location in Flemington at the end of August. Go to the Contact Us page for details.
- The Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Training Services Center on the second floor of 27 Warren St. in Somerville is open for walk-in services from 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, excluding county holidays. Call 908-541-5780 or email onestop@somersetcountynj.gov.
In addition to in-person, all offices offer services through e-mail, phone and virtual platforms. A virtual orientation session for new customers of the Training Center is conducted at 10 a.m. Fridays, and virtual and in-person career-webinars on different topics are presented an ongoing basis by the Training Center and the Greater Raritan Workforce Development Board. Aging Out Conference: Empowering Youth in Foster Care
Multiple state, county and nonprofit agencies working in New Jersey’s child welfare system are partnering to host an Aging Out Conference: Empowering Youth in Foster Care, running from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, September 25, at Middlesex College in Edison.
The conference, for youth ages 15 to 21, is designed to connect teens in foster care with community resources. Throughout the day, participants can join workshop sessions, meet exhibitors with a variety of resources, and listen to motivational speakers. Sessions this year include art activities, self-defense and theater, and employment and educational support will be offered.
For many youth leaving foster care, this time in their lives can be stressful. Some older children in out-of-home placement may not feel confident about their future, often because no one has told them they can succeed, should pursue their goals, or shown them how to access the resources they need. The purpose of the conference is to inspire youth to reach their full potential and give them the knowledge, confidence, and resources to help them get there.
The participating organizations work together to provide food (breakfast and lunch will be provided), entertainment, and giveaways, with the goal of creating a memorable day where young people can have fun, make memories, and think about their future.
Sponsoring agencies include the New Jersey Department of Children & Families, New Jersey Courts, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) of Middlesex County, CASA of Somerset, Hunterdon & Warren Counties, the United Way, New Jersey Public Defender, Coordinated Family Care and Karma Foundation.
