SUMMARY:Norwescap Computer Class Series in Flemington: Basic Computer 1 and 2
DESCRIPTION:Norwescap CLTC’s Computer Class Series is designed to help class participants build a strong foundation using computers. This month’s free series will be conducted in person at a Flemington location to be determined\, using CLTC’s computers and Internet. Class time for the following classes is 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. \nOctober 8 and 10 – Basic Computer 1 and 2: These classes will cover the types of computers\, differences in hardware and software\, Windows operating system overview\, file management\, considerations for purchasing a computer\, and browser and search engine overviews. \nOctober 17\, 22 and 24 – Office 365 Word: These classes will discuss the evolution of word processing\, how Microsoft Word has influenced producing documents\, review key Word options\, functions and settings\, explain how to use tables and templates\, review guidelines to create professional documents and provide opportunities to practice using Word. \nOctober 29 – Computer Skills Brush Up (Open Topic Day):  The computer instructor will be available in-person to answer questions\, review additional topics and provide overall support. Students can bring their personal computers and phones for troubleshooting and advise. This session is exclusively available to anyone who has taken a class in the past. Computers will be available for students to practice with or use to work on resumes\, job applications\, etc.        \nOctober 31 – Virtual Communications: This is a hybrid class (virtual or in-person). Participants will learn how to use Zoom and Teams for telemedicine or interviews. \nRegistration is required. DESCRIPTION:The New Jersey Institute of Technology and the New Jersey Department of Labor are hosting “Artificial Intelligence in the Life Sciences” from 12 to 2 p.m. Thursday\, October 10\, at NJIT’s Main Campus in Newark\, in the Central King Building\, Room 116. \nThe event is geared toward college and high school students interested in learning more about the impact AI is having in the life sciences. There is limited seating for the event\, which also has a virtual attendance option. \nThe main speaker is Anthony Wallace\, vice president and general manager U.S. Surgical\, Bausch + Lomb. There also will be a presentation on how AI is impacting the workforce; a presentation on Women In Stem with Jennifer Harper Siegel. Head of HR Digital Strategy Execution for Johnson & Johnson; a session on how AI is impacting mental health with Mariam Khayretdinova of Brainify.AI; and a panel discussion led by representatives of Students 2 Science. \nThere is no charge to attend the event.
